Logo Leather Naturally

SAMIA is a leather naturally 2020 member

Samia is a member of the Leather Naturally association, which has the task of promoting the use of sustainable leather globally produced and trying to inspire and inform designers, producers and consumers about the beauty, quality and versatility of leather. Leather faces stiff competition from synthetic materials made from non-biodegradable petrochemical derivatives designed to mimic it. The Leather Naturally initiative aims to counter these attacks, highlight the natural beauty of leather and, above all, educate the shopping public, designers and young people about leather and the leather industry.

It is to the benefit of all stakeholders in the leather supply chain to help defend the leather industry from negative publicity inspired by special interest groups. The positive aspects of leather such as being a sustainable material with natural elegance must be promoted by defending them from uncontested relationships designed to affect its image.

Certification ZDHC

Arzignano, Italy – Samia SpA, which has always supported a responsible use of chemistry, has reached an important goal in terms of sustainability by obtaining certification at Level 3 of compliance with the ZDHC.

The new certification demonstrates the company’s commitment to the management of sustainable chemicals, driving innovations and improving more and more leather production practices for garment, footwear, leather goods and furniture in order to protect consumers, workers and the environment.

The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals foundation (ZDHC) is a program that outlines activities by providing a clear path for a safer production, focusing on the principles of transparency and management of chemicals according to an integrated prevention and precaution approach.

In order to achieve this goal, ZDHC has published its MRSL Conformance Guidance version 2.0, a management system designed to determine whether a chemical formulation complies with the requirements of the ZDHC MRSL.

The acronym MRSL refers to a list of chemicals whose intentional use is prohibited in the production of textile articles, in natural and synthetic leather.
